The only clear goal in
my head about Thanksgiving Day was the Macy's day parade. I had to make sure
that I get a glimpse of those freakishly humongous balloon floats. (I have
a thing for balloons). It was quite a challenge, to say the least. I had to
battle my way through hundreds of people down 57th and 7th avenue; I was having
flashbacks of the Halloween parade a month earlier. I don't really have a very
good, uhm, "relationship" with parades, we just don't work together.
for some reason, I always get crushed in a sea of tourists, fanatics,
activists, nudists, etc. I didn't know I had the patience for it - Thank God I
did. Otherwise, I would've strangled that loud Chinese guy to death.
Three avenues, Four
pieces of dumplings, and one apple pie later, We were headed out to our
friend's house in Jersey for Thanksgiving dinner. Upon arriving in Jersey, we
initially planned to get dinner at some really swanky TGI Friday's spot (notice
my sarcasm) and retreat to Nicco's house for the night. The only problem was
that everything was CLOSED. We were starving and desperate. In fact, we were so
hungry that we convinced Angie to settle for a happy meal from McDonald's
but even that was closed. We were losing hope of ever getting a nice
Thanksgiving dinner that night. And in an attempt to boost our morale, I would
go "well, at least we have apple pie!". On our last effort to look
for a shining "bacon" of light, we stumbled upon a pub called John
& Molly's, if my memory serves me right. To lo and behold, they were still
serving dinner! we came in just 5 minutes before their kitchen was about to
close. Thank God for John and Molly’s (or was it Molly and John’s?)
This song was on repeat as we traversed the long and winding roads of New Jersey in search of food.
The next day, we went
grocery shopping and started prepping for Black Friday brunch. Our menu was
composed of a nice serving of fresh Salad, Sameer’s amazing red wine, Chicken
Adobo with rice and oven-baked tomatoes, Apple pie and Angie's fruit mix concoction. Everything
was just so perfect. It was simply a lovely, home-cooked meal. Thank God I
didn’t screw up the adobo. After such an incredible feast, we just chilled and lounged around Nicco's living room. He strummed his guitar with sweet renditions of "sweet child of mine" and "Moonriver"... Its nice to be completely lazy after a huge meal - Heck its thanksgiving! who cares?
(don't forget to scroll all the way down)
Another Free City endorser!! LOL |
I am so proud of my chicken adobo :) |
I don’t deserve the
things and the people in my life. I don’t deserve these blessings at
all. And it’s times like this when you just sit and wonder to yourself: “how in
the world did I get so lucky?”
Thank God for His Grace.
I know it’s kind of late but, Happy Thanksgiving errbody!!! J
